Argentine police, together with Interpol local office, captured last weekend Leonardo Bertulazzi, the former head of logistics of the left-wing Italian militant group, Red Brigades. The organization, blamed on terrorism by Italian authorities, carried out a series of attacks and political murders in Italy during the 1970s and 1980s.

The 51 years old man was detained was detained in Buenos Aires with his wife, a German physician, after entering into the country from Chile, with false passports. Bertulazzi, faces now extradition to Italy, country that has been wanting him for 20 years after sentencing him to 27 years of prison.

As per the last reports from the Argentinean courts, judge Bonadio, in charge of the case will not block the extradition process and is working now in close collaboration with Italian authorities. Mr. Betullazzi is accused of being part of an illegal association, illegal weapon possession, falsifying documents, kidnappings and terrorists acts, an Argentine police spokesman said.

The Italian terrorist was arrested while riding a motorcycle licensed in El Salvador, where he and his wife lived for the last years. Apparently, they had left the Central American country for a cycle riding journey across South America. During the 1970s and 1980s, Italy was plagued by domestic attacks from both right-wing and left-wing extremists, which killed hundreds and left a legacy of lingering political hostility. Red Brigades's most notorious attack was the killing of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro in 1978.
