Macedonian Army Won't Give up Soviet-made T-80 Tanks

According to the Ministry of Defence of Macedonia, the army of the country will not give up Soviet-made T-80 tanks.

According to the Macedonian military command, bringing the tanks into the 'hot spots' in the north of the country was the decisive factor of that Macedonia was able to stop the insurrection of Albanian extremists. In the meantime, the reduction of the army, which first of all concerns tanks and aviation, is the principal condition of Macedonia's acceptance to NATO.

A special commission of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has been working in Skopie for the past five years. The commission is supposed to prepare Macedonia's army for reforming so it could fit into NATO's military structure.
