Russians in Britain: Oligarchs Focus on Football Clubs

The sensational purchase of Chelsea, London's football club by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich caused serious panic in Great Britain
The sensational purchase of Chelsea, London's football club by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich caused serious panic in Great Britain. British specialists and mass media fear that the Russian businessman may use the football club to pursue his private purposes.

PRAVDA.Ru correspondent learnt from a source in Britain's Guardian that "there is some suggestion that Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a Russian oligarch closely watching actions of Roman Abramovich might be looking to buy one of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Aston Villa or Fulham, that one that is ripe for a Russian takeover. It is an interesting thought that there could be a trend towards the Russian oligarchs buying English football clubs."

Recently, it has become known that Roman Abramovich had an opportunity to buy Thierry Henry out of Arsenal. According to the Daily Mirror, the French legionary of the London football club is indignant at the fact that another French player of the club, Patrick Vieira is paid much more than he. According to the contract, Thierry Henry will be paid 58,000 pounds per week, while Vieira will get 70,000 pounds per week. It is reported that Thierry Henry discovered the differences between the contracts of both players just recently. The contracts were concluded for the next four years.

This fact suggested that the legionary should consider a repeated offer of the Russian businessman more carefully.
