Argentina arrests foreign property

Buenos Aires has arrested the property of five oil companies in the Falkland Islands. The arrests were conducted amid environmentally harmful works in the territorial waters of Argentina. The country has arrested the property of an American, French and three British oil companies worth 156 million dollars.

Mikhail Belyat, researcher at the Russian State Humanitarian University

"I think that such a position is quite justified for many reasons. Firstly, it goes about territorial waters of Argentina and oil production on the shelf is a question of jurisdiction in this country. Therefore, it is up to Argentina to decide which company can and which can't work in its waters. If Argentina sees serious reasons that may create a threat to the country, then Argentina will have a full right to suspend all those works."
