FC Porto Confirms: Bruno Alves Goes to Zenit

Zenit St. Petersburg has today wrapped up the transfer of FC Porto and Portuguese international central defender Bruno Alves. The Portuguese club communicated today to the Portuguese Transfer Market Committee (CMVM) that Bruno Alves is to join Zenit for 22 million Euro.

What remains to be done, according to the Portuguese club, is for the player himself to sign the contract with his new club and for him to pass the medical examinations.

Geraldo, Bruno Alves’ brother, who plays for Romanian side Steaua Bucareste, told Portuguese site Maisfutebol, that “Bruno will like playing in Russia because he will have the opportunity to live in a historic and very pretty city”. What will he miss? According to the same source, the 28-year-old will miss the sands and the beaches around his home in Póvoa, northern Portugal, where he spends his free time playing beach foot-volleyball.

Playing football abroad is no novelty for this son of a Brazilian father and Portuguese mother. He started his career on loan from FC Porto to Farense and Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal but also to AEK Athens abroad. He joined FC Porto’s first-team squad in 2005. In 112 appearances he scored 14 goals for FC Porto and in 33 games for Portugal, scored 5.

This experienced, talented and strong central defender promises much for the fans of Zenit.
