The humiliating defeat of Brazil in the World Cup against Germany - 7:1 - was dubbed "historic" and significantly downgraded the rating of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's as a candidacy for second presidential mandate. After the match, riots sparked throughout the country; football fans were clashing with police and looting shops.

In Rio de Janeiro, clashes between German and Brazilian fans started already at the stadium, during the match. Several people were arrested. Police forces were then used to contain the raging crowd and prevent the looting of shops in the neighborhood of Copacabana.

After the game, Brazilian fans were shouting insults at President Dilma Rousseff. In Belo Horizonte, two hooligans were arrested for insulting the Brazilian flag after they burned it. In Sao Paulo, fans attacked shops and set fire to buses; offenses were committed in other cities of the country.

In Brazil, where football, or soccer, is elevated to the rank of religion, such a humiliating defeat can not be forgiven. On the eve of the presidential elections to be held in autumn 2014, Dilma Rousseff, from the coalition of leftist parties, had the support of 38 percent of voters. Her closest rival - center-right Aetius Neves - had  20 percent, a poll by Datafolha said. The Brazilian press concluded that Dilma's chances to be re-elected have plummeted.

Disappointed Brazilian fans burned several buses in Sao Paulo after the humiliating defeat of the national team by Germany in the semifinals of the World Cup 2014 (1:7).

According to O Globo, incidents took place immediately after the match. At least two buses were set ablaze, although television footage showed that the number of burned cars was a lot bigger. An electrical shop was looted.

Legendary Brazilian footballer Pele said that his country's team must now win the World Cup 2018 to be held in Russia. The Brazilians have thus failed to get into the final of the World Cup 2014.

"I've always said that football is full of surprises. Nobody in the world could think that Brazil may lose with a score of 1:7. Well, we will win the sixth title in Russia. Congratulations to Germany," Pele said, Interfax reports.

The Germans achieved amazing results already in the first half of the match. Thomas Mueller opened the score during the 11th minute. Afterwards, the Brazilians experienced the nightmarish six minutes, during which they missed four goals one after another. On the part of the German team, the goals were scored by Miroslav Klose (23 minute), Toni Kroos (twice - during the 24th and 26th minute) and Sami Khedira (29 minute). To make matters worse, all the goals were scored as a result of terrible errors in the center of Brazilian defense, including the absence of captain Thiago Silva, who missed the semi-final due to suspension.

The second half of the game was much quieter: the German team was not rushing anywhere, whereas the Brazilian team, which was deprived of its main strike force in the face of striker Neimar - failed to create at least one dangerous moment for the Germans.

The Germans continued to crush the Brazilians. During the 69th minute of the game, the sixth goal was scored by London Chelsea striker Andre Schürrle. He did it again during the 79th minute. The only goal of team Brazil was scored by Oscar, but the moment could not sweeten the bitterness of the humiliating defeat.

Now the Germans will have to struggle for the title of the best football team in the world with the winner of the second semi-finals - either Argentina or Holland.
