The parents explained to their daughter at her early age that people all the time would inevitably cover the father's name in mud, and the girl knew that politics involved various methods including very unpleasant ones. Chelsea was twelve when Bill Clinton's ex-mistress made some public confessions during his first preelection campaign. The girl treated the situation calmly and did not go into hysteric. People say that was possible only because the girl felt perfectly well the adoration of the parents toward her. For Bill Clinton, Chelsea turned out to be the only female creature whom he sincerely loved. At the same time, Hillary was rather a friend and a reliable companion to the daughter.
