Kylie Minogue grows short spiky hair after therapy and prepares to return on stage

Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue, currently recovering from breast cancer, has announced through a spokesperson that she plans to publish children’s books for kids aged six and up. The picture books will be published by Puffin in September. Minogue is following in the footsteps of Madonna, whose first children’s book, The English Roses, spent 18 weeks in the top spot of the New York Times Bestseller List.

While the picture book is about a little girl named Kylie who dreams of becoming a showgirl princess, a Puffin representative told The Guardian. It's not autobiographical, although Kylie does draw on her experiences. The book is for little girls who dream of dressing up and going onstage and it's written in a tone that's suitable for children. The main character just happens to be Kylie.

The book’s editor, Jane Richardson said the book will "appeal to little princesses everywhere who love to dress up and have fun. It brims with positive messages such as believing in yourself and the importance of friendship and teamwork", entertainmentwise.com says.

"We're short on details of the plot, but we'd expect the little girl character - let's call her Mylie for now - gets very famous in a cheaply-made soap opera, then starts singing, then makes a handful of awful films (including one based on a beat 'em up videogame), then stops being famous, then gets her arse out in a pair of tiny hot pants and becomes more famous than ever," hecklerspray.com supposes.

Minogue, who first gained fame on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, was treated for breast cancer last May in the midst of a carefully planned comeback, delaying her latest music tour until this December. The tour, which happens to be called Showgirl, is notable for its decidedly non-childlike wardrobe and staging, marketed as a risque, clothing-light show modeled on Las Vegas style adult entertainment, thebookstandard.com reports.

The 37-year-old has also acted in films including Moulin Rouge, Street Fighter and The Delinquents. Last November tour promoter Michael Gudinski announced Minogue would perform in Australia at the end of 2006.

Kylie Minogue must be feeling much better - she's made a surprise stop over in Sri Lanka and visited a children's theatre group. Apparently the pop princess is a patron and sponsor to the group, which is made up of tsunami and civil war orphans. She checked out the group's performance of Shakespeare's Pericles, before riding an elephant down the beach with the kids, ABC Online reports.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed Kylie's recovery from cancer is going so well her hair is beginning to grow back. The 'Slow' singer lost her blonde locks after having chemotherapy treatment last year, and often covered her baldness with headscarves. Although she is still wearing the scarves in public, she now takes them off in private to reveal her new short, straight, spiky hair, femalefirst.co.uk says.
