Ldpr Leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky Gives Positive Assessment To Personnel Changes In Russian Government

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia /LDPR/, has given a positive assessment to personnel and structural changes in the Russian government. Speaking at a RIA Novosti news conference on Wednesday, he said, among other things, that it was "entirely correct" to abolish the Ministry for Federal Affairs, Ethnic and Migration Policy. He expressed the view that in connection with the latest developments in the world it would be "wiser" to set up a ministry for oriental affairs. Replying to journalists' questions, Zhirinovsky said that the reorganisation of the government "will take a long time", but, he claimed, "this will yield nothing". In his typical emotional manner the LDPR leader said that Russia "needs an authoritarian regime and a change in policy". "The western model of democracy does not suit us," he said.
