NATO: Please do not make a monumental mistake

Over ten years ago in this column I made an appeal to good sense writing an open letter to President Bush and Prime Minister Blair, a respectful message spelling out the facts on the ground and informing them that they were about to make a monumental foreign policy blunder in Iraq. I respectfully address Messrs. Obama, Cameron and Hollande.

It is becoming obvious that the United States of America is not ruled by the President, but rather, by the corporations and lobbies which either elect or else close ranks around a President, neutering his more social-leaning policies and making sure he follows a policy which pleases everyone. "Everyone" being the weapons lobby which needs wars to perpetuate its existence, the drugs lobby, the banking lobby, the Pharmaceutical lobby and the Jewish lobby, AIPAC.

Ten years ago, the Internet was ten years younger and as social networking becomes the norm, as do hacking attacks against persons who engage in trying to share information and attempts to control and weed out traffic unsavoury to Washington, London and lately, Paris, it is also true that people today are far better informed and less likely to fall for a lie such as the one creating the false causus belli in Iraq.

Therefore it comes as no surprise to find out certain tell-tale features which Messrs. Obama, Cameron and Hollande, to whom I address myself, will be aware of - if not, then they are incompetent - but which they are hiding from their people. For one, several weeks ago a high-level Israeli delegation went to Washington to prepare for scenarios in the wake of a chemical attack. How did they know one might be coming?

Secondly, evidence has been presented at the UNO building, which you will be aware of, that two rockets carrying chemical weapons were fired from Douma, an area controlled by the Syrian "rebels" (I do not say "terrorists" because I am trying to deliver a respectful message) and which landed in East Ghouta, killing civilians, children and members of the Syrian Armed Forces. The latter did not appear on the front pages of your newspapers. The UNO itself has confirmed that the "rebels" already used chemical weapons. That is not in your newspapers either.

Thirdly, the UN weapons inspectors did not ask for access to the area in question before last Saturday. As we saw when they tried to inspect the area, they were fired at by a sniper (from opposition lines). Why? Because he did not want them to investigate? The Syrian authorities did everything they could to facilitate the inspection because let us be honest and see elementary logic, they were not going to incriminate themselves, killing their own troops in an area where they were winning, on the eve of the weapons inspectors' arrival. They also had the obligation to ensure it was safe.

If you believe that the authorities fired those weapons, then again, your competence to be in your positions is in question and it is certainly placed in question making damning allegations without one shred of evidence.

Fourthly, the rhetoric from your camps sounds ominously like that we heard before the foreign policy disaster in Iraq, in which the USA and UK performed an illegal invasion against a sovereign nation, deployed chemical weaponry against civilians (DU) and tarnished their images in the hearts and minds of humankind.

I would urge you to appeal to common sense, examine the facts and not the hype, consider the evidence and not jump to immature conclusions, weigh up the facts before taking hasty action which will blow up in your faces. If you do not know what you are doing then speak to those who do.

Then if you must take action, go through the UNSC because if it became apparent that the Government forces in Syria did use CBW (Chemical and Biological Weapons) then there would not be a case to oppose. As it stands today, your case does not have a leg to stand on and you know it.

Be honest, for once. Admit that the entire Syria campaign is orchestrated by the opposition forces you support and it was launched to create an alternative pipeline for the EU to not be reliant on Russian natural gas, it has to do with the offer of contracts to US-based commercial entities hot on the issue of shale gas... inside Syria, by Israel, has it not?

There is still time for right and reason before a further tragic mistake is committed. Try to make a difference and have the courage to bring your countries back into line with the heart of humankind. Weighing against you is the legacy of your countries in recent years since 1990. How many wars have you been involved in, how many civilians have your countries murdered?

If there is a civil war in Syria it is because your countries started it, armed and aided rebel forces and instructed them with your SOFs (Special Operations Forces) to perpetrate terrorist attacks.

Be honest and tell this to your citizens. If not, the Internet will do it for you.

I sincerely hope you can look at yourselves in the mirror in the morning and feel great after you know very well what you are doing behind the lie you are spinning. How disgusting and what a telling comment on your citizens that they swallow anything you thrust down their throats.

I am sorry, I have lost the ability to be respectful.
