On behalf of all of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze has expressed his deepest sympathy in connection with the death of innocent people in the Moscow terrorist attack.

While speaking on Georgia's National radio, the Georgian president said that there was "no justification for the actions of the terrorists" who took hundreds of people hostage in the centre of Moscow.

According to Shevardnadze, the operation to release the hostages had been unavoidable and saved hundreds of lives.

He also said that although Georgia felt concern for all the hostages, regardless of their nationality, the Georgian embassy in Moscow was doing everything possible to establish the identities of all the Georgian citizens who had been seized in the Theatre Centre in Moscow and provide them with help.
