In Minsk, while heading a delegation of German entrepreneurs and scientists, Matthias Kleinert, the Vice-President of the Daimler-Chrysler corporation said Belarus was quite aware of being about to become a next-door neighbour to the European Union, possibly a future member.

The delegation, whose visit to Minsk ends today, came to help developing bilateral cooperation. While meeting with Belarus' Prime Minister Gennady Novitsky, Mr. Kleinert said, 'Belarus is important to us because relations with your republic fit into our own plans of strategic development. As a concern, we see our development in the world as closely tied with the America-Europe-Asia triad. If we want to be successful, this triad must include strong Europe, whose overall and regional development is important to us. This is why we believe that establishing cooperation between Belarus and our federal lands means moving in the right direction'.

In his speech, Mr. Novitsky also acknowledged the importance of developing cooperation with Germany's federal lands and industrial groups. He said, 'Belarus will do everything to enhance conditions entrepreneurs find on our markets. We move step by step along the way of evolutionary economic reforms. Because Belarus has proved it is a reliable and disciplined country, your joining our market has a good potential'.
