Four representatives of the banned Islamic extremist organization Hezb-ut-Tahrir have been detained in southern Kirghizia by law-enforcement bodies of the republic. RIA Novosti learned this on Friday from sources in the Interior Ministry of the Republic.

According to the sources, large amounts of literature and videos with appeals to overthrow the existing system in the republic and establish an Islamic state in Central Asia have been confiscated from them during the search. All the four detained men are residents of the village of Kuruk-Kol, Suzak district of Kirghizia.

The law-enforcement officers also said that the illegal party had considerably stepped up its activity on Kirghizian territory in the past few months.

Over that time, law-enforcement bodies detained about twenty people on suspicion of complicity in the activity of an underground organization in the Suzak district alone. Hundreds of kilograms of banned extremist literature have been confiscated from them.

Some time ago, law-enforcement bodies discovered two large caches with weapons and explosive substances not far away in the mountains, which, according to experts, also belonged to extremist groupings.
