Transdniestria, the self-proclaimed republic, which is part and parcel of Moldavia, received 40 Russian army trucks from the garage of a local Russian task force. This was disclosed to reporters by Maj.-Gen. Boris Sergeyev, who commands the afore-said task force. In his words, another 40 trucks will be readied for subsequent shipment to Russia starting with December 14.

General Sergeyev reminded his audience that the Government of Russia had decided to divide the task force's materiel fifty-fifty. 50 percent of such materiel will be returned to Russia; meanwhile regional authorities will get the rest. Still this implies non-combat equipment and materiel alone; we are not going to share our weapons and ammunition with anyone, he stressed.

Talking about short-term prospects, Sergeyev noted that two Russian peace-keeping battalions and military logistics-support units will remain in the Dniester area for some time to come. The Russian task force now comprises 1,700 servicemen.
