Growing number of malaria cases in Southern Kirghizia
More than 200 malaria cases have been registered in the southern areas of Kirghizia, reports the Health Ministry of the republic.
According to the information from the Ministry, the situation is the worst in the town of Osh where 80 malaria cases have been registered. Medical workers usually believe that the infection is transmitted by mosquitoes. However, doctors connect the current growth of the incidence of malaria with the growing migration of the population to the country's southern districts and low sanitary levels.
At present the epidemiological services are carrying out disinfecting measures in the basements of cities and drain bogged water reservoirs near populated areas. One of the main problems are the rice fields situated in the immediate vicinity of people's houses, which are real breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
