Belarussian President Backs Creation Of Cis Interstate Security Committee

Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has come up with support of the initiative to create within the framework of the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS) an interstate security committee. The Belarussian leader said this to a Minsk Meeting of the Committee of the Security Council Secretaries of the countries on the Collective Security Treaty (CST) on Friday. The signatories to the treaty are Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia. Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo said the interstate security committee would be established within the framework of the CIS and would be based on the Committee of the Security Council Secretaries of the CST member-countries. He added that in the near future this proposal would be submitted for consideration to the top authorities of the CIS countries.
