Gunman Opened Fire in a Bratislava Street, 6 Killed and 14 Injured

A gunman has killed six people and wounded 14 others in Bratislava, a Slovak news agency has reported. The news agency TASR said the shooting took place mid-morning on the streets of the Devinska Nova Ves neighbourhood on the outskirts of the Slovak capital. It said the man, who has not been identified, opened fire on passers-by and shot through windows into buildings.

Local media reported later that the shooter may have killed himself, but police would not immediately confirm the report, The Press Association says.

The police refused to comment, saying they were still investigating the shooting.

Slovakia, a central European EU member, experienced some shooting incidents involving criminal gangs in the 1990s, but has had no large-scale shootings in recent years. Witnesses quoted by TA3 said the shooting took place on a busy street near a supermarket, Telegraph reports.
