Hurricane Daniel in the Atlantic Reaches Bermuda

Hurricane Danielle, churning in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, weakened to a Category Two storm early Saturday as it moved north well away from Bermuda, US forecasters said.

The storm, which was turning north, was forecast to leave Bermuda unscathed as it passes well east of the Atlantic island territory late Saturday, AFP reports.

The Bermuda Weather Service issued a storm watch at 3:30 p.m. Miami time alerting residents that winds of 39 miles to 73 miles per hour (63 kilometers to 117 kilometers per hour) and high waves are possible within 48 hours.

The Category 4 storm, packing winds of 135 miles an hour, is expected to pass east of the wealthy British territory tomorrow as a "major" hurricane before weakening, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, according to Bloomberg.
