Bird flu found in German’s Bavaria

The H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus has been detected in Bavaria, making it the fifth German state to report cases, the regional government officials said Tuesday.

The Friedrich Loeffler animal health institute determined that two wild birds found in the southern state tested positive for the strain, the state Agriculture Ministry said.

Germany's first cases of H5N1 were confirmed on the Baltic Sea island of Ruegen in mid-February.

The virus so far has not been detected in domestic poultry in the country, reports the AP.
