Great Britain has become the fourth country, after Poland, France and Finland, to present its programme of events for the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. At the presentation of this programme, which took place in the International Press Centre on October 23, British Ambassador Sir Roderick Line said that there would be more than 20 events in the programme, including meetings of the two countries' political leaders at the highest level. Also, naval cooperation between the two countries will continue in 2003 and several British military ships will visit Saint Petersburg.

A Week of British science will take place in March 2003 and a festival of modern British cinema will be held in April. A concert will take place on May 13th with famous British conductor John Edwards, a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. A Manchester Week, beginning on June 30th, will include a variety of events. For example, British DJs will come to play in local night clubs and the brass quartet "Tubalate" will also visit Saint Petersburg. An architecture firm from Glasgow will create a children's playground. This project has been authorised by the local authorities. There will also be a series of literary readings entitled "Battle of the Sexes", which will be led by the famous British acting couple Timothy West and Prunella Scales. The Edinburgh youth orchestra will visit Saint Petersburg in July 2003.
