US Republican Senator John McCain called on President Barack Obama to bomb Syria, as bases of militant organization ISIL are located in Syria, McCain believes.

On Fox News Sunday, McCain stated that there was no boundary between Iraq and Syria. To strike Syria would be one of the key decisions of President Obama, he said. "One of the key decisions the president is going to have to make is airpower in Syria. We cannot give them a base of operations. And we have got to help the Free Syrian Army," he said.

According to the politician, the killing of American journalist James Foley could be the catalyst for the president's administration to develop a comprehensive strategy for Iraq "and other parts of the world."

McCain admitted that the Americans were tired of war, however, he added, the threat from militants, who could come to the United States to carry out acts of terrorism, was very real.

The Islamic State controls most of the province of Raqqa and a vast territory in the north and in the west of Syria. Meanwhile, in the south-west, the militants suddenly left the northern part of the city of Homs, having redeployed some of their forces closer to the city of Deir ez-Zor, not far from the border with Iraq.
