Anti-Russian petition in USA receives over 25,000 signatures

The petition against Russian MPs, who voted in favor of the "Dima Yakovlev bill," has received 25,000 signatures in the United States. The amount of signatures was enough to send the document for review to the presidential administration.

The petition says that its proponents were concerned about the actions of Russian lawmakers who had crossed all possible limits of humanity, responsibility and common sense to make the choice that threatened the lives and well-being of thousands of Russian orphans, some of whom are sick and have disabilities. According to US officials, the orphans will not have a chance of survival if the ban on international adoptions takes effect in Russia, the website of the Voice of America said.

The petition has been posted in a special section of the website of the U.S. President called "We the People". In this section, any U.S. citizen over 13 years can upload their petitions. Within 30 days, it must collect at least 25,000 signatures. Afterwards, an official will consider the petition.

It should be noted that after Russia's leading media channels reported the news about the petition, the number of those willing to sign it has increased considerably. Noteworthy, the petition was presumably signed by people with Russian names.

The USA's infamous Magnitsky Act was signed by U.S. President Barack Obama on December 14. The document will enter into force 90 days after it has been signed by the president.

Russia approved the "law of Dima Yakovlev" in response to the Magnitsky Act.
