Iranian President to visit Uzbekistan

Iranian president Mohammad Khatami is to visit Tashkent, Uzbekistan, later this week, according to the Iranian News Agency, IRNA.

President Khatami will arrive in Tashkent on Friday, 26th April to hols talks with Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov. The Iranian Ambassador to Tashkent, Hossein Naraqian, confirmed that the two presidents would sign agreements on mutual cooperation, including documents covering the economic and cultural areas.

President Khatami will also deliver a lecture at the Tashkent Science Academy before meeting Iranian residents in Uzbekistan.

On Saturday 27th April, a pharmaceutical factory, the result of a joint Uzbek/Iranian venture, will be opened in Samarkand, where President Khatami will visit cultural and historical buildings. The visit will then move on to the historic city of Bukhara.
