Presidents of Iran and US to meet for the first time in 34 years

The current president of Iran, reformer Hassan Rouhani, and U.S. President Barack Obama are likely to meet in person at the General Assembly of the United Nations. The leaders of the two countries have not organized bilateral meetings since 1979, according to The Guardian.

Some experts see the possible meeting between Rouhani, who took office in August, and Obama's as an opportunity to find a diplomatic solution to the problem of Iran's nuclear program.

Earlier, it was reported that Obama and Rouhani had exchanged letters, in which they touched upon the most actual problem of international relations - the war in Syria. Next week, they will probably be able to discuss the issue in person at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York.
