New York police funded by UAE? Unknown documents

According to the revealed tax documents of 2012 the UAE gave 1,000,000 dollars to the New York City Police Foundation. The filed records show that the same amount of money was transferred to the NYPD Intelligence Division's International Liaison Program by the Foundation, that is described as a gift.

The spokesperson of the Foundation advised that, "The gift was directed to upgrade NYPD equipment and facilities used to aid in criminal investigations throughout New York City."

The UAE Embassy abstained from comments on the subject.

Barclays Capital and JPMorgan Chase turned out to be among other major donors of the New York Police. Embassy of the United Arab Emirates is also on the list. All the scheduled donors exceed $1 million threshold for the period of 4 years.

According to the disclosed records, the obtained grant "enables the NYPD to station detectives throughout the world to work with local law enforcement on terrorism related incidents".

Washington Post named the Police Foundation as a recipient of the UAE funding in 2013.

As reported by the Brennan Center, "The New York City Police Foundation pays for the NYPD's overseas intelligence operations, which span 11 locations around the world."

It was disclosed, that the NYPD representative Ray Kelly signed an agreement in the UAE on "the exchange of ideas and training methods" in 2012.
