Russians Say that Georgian Border Guards Are Refusing to Cooperate
'The biggest problem with the Russia-Georgia border is the Georgians,' unwillingness to cooperate, hand over rebels and other trespassers,' said Head of the Federal Border Guard Service of Russia Konstantin Totsky. Mr Totsky said that Russian and Georgian border controls are currently preparing an agreement which will force the two sides to cooperate and exchange information. He is not sure, however, that the Georgian border guards will take this agreement seriously. 'We really need to find a way out of this deadlock. Otherwise, soldiers on the border will simply shoot each other,' Mr Totsky concluded.
'There is a much larger military presence on this section of the border. There are 3-4 times more soldiers than in most sections,' he added. 'However, there is not enough technical assistance and the living conditions are poor.'
