China Ready To Negotiate ABM With The USA

China is ready to hold negotiations with the USA on missile defence of the theatre of war and on the national missile defence system, said spokesman Sun Yuxi for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday. However, he emphasised that Beijing was firmly opposed to deploying national missile defence and missile defence for the Asian theatre of war. The Russian-US 1972 ABM Treaty constitutes the cornerstone of global strategic balance and stability. The deployment of national missile defence systems and missile defence for the theatre of war would all but disrupt the balance and spark off a new round of arms race, said the Chinese diplomat. He demanded that the US be careful in its approach to these issues and the revision of the ABM Treaty. At the same time, China is ready to negotiate the matter with the US delegation, said the Chinese official.
