Russian vessel arrested in Senegal running out of drinking water

The Russian trawler Oleg Naydenov that was inexplicably arrested by Senegalese authorities a few days ago, is running out of water. In addition, all the garbage remains on the vessel.

Officials with the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency said that trash pickup from the vessel had been paid and agreed with contractors from Senegal. However, the military do not let adequate services do their work to remove garbage.

On January 8, the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency issued a statement, according to which the failure of a regular stage of negotiations of Russian diplomats with Senegalese authorities about the current state of affairs with the trawler is the blame of Greenpeace activists, who previously accused the crew of the vessel of illegal fishing.

Later, representatives of Greenpeace responded to these allegations, saying that they condemn the actions of the authorities of Senegal.

The crew, consisting of 62 citizens of Russia and 23 representatives of Guinea-Bissau was arrested on January 3. No charges have been brought against anyone.

According to the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency, the situation on the vessel in Dakar generally quiet. However, the reasons, for which the special forces of Senegal were ordered to arrest the Oleg Naydenov, are still not clear.

The time, when Russia and Senegal conduct talks on this issue is unknown too.
