The United States is seeking to "return the Middle East to the epoch of colonialism". Tariq Aziz, Vice-Premier of Iraq, said this in Baghdad at a meeting with representatives of the national councils of Sudan, Palestine and Syria, reports a RIA Novosti correspondent.

The United States would like to divide the Middle Eastern region "into small kingdoms", the Iraqi newspaper As-Saura cites Tariq Aziz as saying.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi vice-premier believes that time is working for those who oppose the aggression being prepared against Iraq. The number of opponents of the war is increasing world-wide, including in the United States, he said. More and more people are becoming aware of "the unlawful anti-Iraqi policy of the United States, which poses danger to peace and stability in the world", said Tariq Aziz.
