25 people die in building collapse in Azerbaijani capital

Rescuers recovered the last victim's body Friday, bringing the total death toll to 25 in building collapse.

Azerbaijan's Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Tural Museyibov said that the rescue workers had confirmed that there were no other bodies under the debris. The building was under construction when it collapsed on Aug. 28 while workers were on site.

Prosecutors in the ex-Soviet republic on the Caspian Sea blamed violations of safety regulations for the collapse. Authorities have arrested the head of the construction company and another company executive.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliev has signed a decree aimed at tightening state control over construction business which has been boosted by Azerbaijan's rising oil revenues.
