Foreign ministers agree to coordinate efforts to solve Iranian problem

The foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty (DKB) have agreed to coordinate efforts to solve the Iraqi problem, and exchange information on this issue, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov told journalists after the Moscow meeting was over. The Treaty unites Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Igor Ivanov stressed that the DKB member states were not indifferent to how the situation in the region, in direct proximity to our borders would develop." He also pointed out the need for closely coordinating the sides' stands on the given issue which "is important not by itself only but also from the viewpoint of consequences it may have for the region and the whole world." The minister again stressed the stance of Russia concerning the inadmissibility of the forced solution of the Iraqi problem.

Igor Ivanov pointed out that the settlement of the situation around Baghdad should be searched for within the framework of the political and diplomatic instruments, on the basis of the corresponding UN Security Council resolutions.

According to him, the Russian representatives informed their DKB counterparts in detail of the work of the UN Security Council on this issue.
