A launched an information campaign to warn people in Bosnia about the dangers of human trafficking, an official said Wednesday.

Human trafficking and the sex trade has boomed since Bosnia's 1992-95 war, in part due to a lack of border controls and a weak judicial system. Many smugglers use Bosnia and neighboring countries as transit points for reaching the West.

The International Organization for Migration said it wanted to help boost awareness, especially among youths, about the need for more protections against human trafficking in Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary, said Amela Efendic, of the organization's mission to Bosnia.

A short documentary on the subject will be shown on 32 local television stations, and 60,000 posters of drawings by students who took part in previous workshops on people smuggling were being distributed throughout the country, Efendic said.

"This campaign is the sixth IOM campaign launched in Bosnia since 2000 and is part of an ongoing process. It targets Bosnian youth as possible victims of human trafficking," Efendic said, reports the AP. I.L.
