U.S. President Barack Obama met with President-elect of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, while on a visit to Moscow.

The first meeting between Obama and Poroshenko took place at the Solidarity Award Ceremony in honor of leader of Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev in Warsaw. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is now on his first visit to Europe.

Nearly 20 heads of states and governments gathered for the ceremony, including President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. The bilateral meeting between the heads of the U.S. and Ukraine will take place in the near future, most likely on Wednesday, June 4.

On Tuesday, U.S. President set off for a European tour, during which he will visit Poland, Belgium and France. The primary subject of talks will be the situation in Ukraine.

During the meeting with Poroshenko, Barack Obama will discuss measures to reduce tensions in Ukraine, as well as possibilities of the United States to support the Ukrainian government.

The U.S. has already called Poroshenko to work in collaboration with the EU and Russia to prevent the escalation of tensions in eastern Ukraine, where security forces carry out large-scale criminal military operation against pro-independence protesters, killing civilians.
