Indoor athletics arena to be built in Nizhny Novgorod

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Valery Shantsev, said that there would be an indoor athletics arena built in the region. Shantsev released the statement during his work visit to track and field sports objects in the Nizhny Novgorod region - the arena of Lokomotiv Stadium and a local training stadium.

"The objects that we inspected are the only areas in Nizhny Novgorod, where both newcomers and team Russia hopefuls train. The new plan will help us pay more attention to first priority goals for the development of this kind of sport," Vasily Pushkin, the chairman of the Track and Field Federation of the Nizhny Novgorod region said.

"The region needs an indoor track and field arena so that athletes could get ready for sports competitions all the year round. Track and field is a spectacular and emotional type of sport. We have eight local residents, who stand as candidates for team Russia at the Olympic Games in London," Valery Shantsev said.

The governor also said that the project works for the new arena would finish this year. The cost of the new sports object makes up 120 million rubles.
