Wayne Rooney, Striker of Manchester United, Named PFA Player Of The Year

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been named the 2010 PFA Player of the Year after a marvelous season that has seen him score 34 times in all competitions and help the Red Devils in their bid for a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

With two time PFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo departing Old Trafford for Real Madrid in the summer, Rooney has responded with the best season of his career, scoring 34 goals and helping United win the Carling Cup.

The 24-year-old is also the favorite for the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year award, Goal.com informs.

Rooney injured his right ankle against Bayern Munich on 30 March, and missed Saturday's win over Tottenham. The England camp believe that he injured his left leg by overcompensating for the right ankle he hurt against Bayern.

Sir Alex Ferguson's prognosis is that the injury, sustained in training last Thursday, will keep him out for "two to three weeks" though Ferguson's assistant Mike Phelan said: "We have got seven days to prepare for the next game and we hope we get Wayne Rooney back," Independent informs.
