Vitali Klitschko to change Ukraine's Tax Code to run for presidency

 

Vitali Klitschko, a professional boxer and one of the leaders of the opposition of Ukraine, prepars an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in connection with the amendment to the Tax Code, which may prevent him from taking part in the presidential elections in 2015, a spokesman for UDAR (BLOW) party, led by Klitchko, said. Klitschko is a Ukrainian citizen, who has repeatedly ran for MPs, and the Central Electoral Committee did not have any questions to the boxer before, the ofifcial said.

Previously, the Tax Code of Ukraine adopted amendments concerning the procedure for registration of taxpayers and their recognition as residents. The award-winning boxer Klitschko has been living in Germany for 14 years. Therefore, he can not be considered a resident of Ukraine. The Central Election Commission has the right to refuse him a presidential candidate certificate.

Klitschko announced his intent to take part in the next presidential election in Ukraine on 24 October 2013. Will he be allowed to campaign? Does he have a chance to win?
