Russia starts ticket sales for Winter Olympics in Sochi

The sale of tickets for Winter Olympic Games in Sochi begins today, February 7th. Ticket prices for the Games start from 500 rubles ($20), the president of the organizing committee of Sochi 2014, Dmitry Chernyshenko told reporters.

According Chernyshenko, the cheapest ticket for sports events will cost 500 rubles (about $20). A ticket to the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympics will cost 6,000 rubles ($200).

For 1,500 rubles ($50), spectators will be able to visit almost any sporting event. To attract more spectators, organizers set the price for about a half of all tickets below 3,000 rubles ($100).

The only exception will be the ice hockey final: the minimum price of the ticket for the match of the Olympic hockey will be 7,000 rubles ($250). However, organizers stressed out that it will be nearly a third cheaper than the cost of the tickets for hockey finals during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The organizing committee of the Winter Olympics in Sochi expects that the proceeds from ticket sales will be comparable to those of the Vancouver Winter Games in 2010. Three years ago, Vancouver received $250 million from ticket sales.
