Nizhny Novgorod to host matches of prestigious women's ice hockey tournament

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, prestigious competitions in women's ice hockey will be conducted. The region will host semi-finals of the European Women's Champions Cup. The tournament has been held annually among champion teams since 2005 under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation. The current tournament is the eleventh one.

Matches of the semi-finals of the European Women's Champions Cup in sports season 2014-2015, Group E, will be held in Nizhny Novgorod on December 5-7. Ice hokey fans will be able to see players from Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The national champion of 2013-2014 sports season, Nizhny Novgorod-based women's ice hockey team Skif will represent Russia at the tournament. The team will play against Sabres (Austria), Poprad (Slovakia) and Carwin (the Czech Republic).

Twelve teams will be struggling for the finals in three groups. Five teams, including Skif, passed the qualifying tournament on international rankings, they were joined by seven other teams - four winners in the group, as well as three of the four runners-up. Four teams will play in the finals. 

The government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and sports club SKIF invite ice hokey fans to support the Nizhny Novgorod team in the fight for victory in the prestigious European competition.
