"NET - New European THEATRE" is the name for the fourth suchlike festival to take place in Moscow on November 7-23.

This theatrical forum of young directors and actors has been held in the capital since 1998 on the initiative of a group of THEATRE journalists. NET is the first non-state theatrical initiative in Russia that sets the task of presenting new theatre names and a new generation of European directors to the audience.

At the same time it is an attempt to correlate Russian stage experience with the new trends that appeared in the European THEATRE after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The festival's organisers don't tend to decipher the abbreviation NET (in Russian, it means negation) unambiguously. In their opinion, it means both the English word "net" and the Internet, and the negation of theatre routine as well.

Troupes from Bulgaria, Hungary, Great Britain and Latvia attended the previously held festivals in the Russian capital. This time, the festival will be opened by the Chekhov MKhAT's (Moscow Artistic Academic Theatre) premiere - "Terrorism", staged by director Kirill Serebrennikov after a play by young brothers Presnyakov. The performance won the contest for the best modern play held by the Russian Ministry of Culture and MKhAT.

The NET festival will show Muscovites and the capital's guests works by directors from Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, France and Russia.
