Transvestite singer may leave Russia without Eurovision Song Contest

Russia's Ministry for Communications received a petition to ban the broadcast of Eurovision 2014 in Russia due to the participation of a transvestite singerin the song contest. The petition was posted on Change.org on behalf of the All-Russian Parent Meeting.

The organization is concerned about transvestite singer Conchita Wurst of Austria. According to the authors of the document, signed by about 400 people, "the popular international competition that our children will be watching has become a hotbed of sodomy, at the initiation of European liberals." The activists believe that the competition and its broadcast should be banned in Russia.

The singer, whose real name is Thomas Neuwirth, wears a beard, dresses and women's shoes, thus promoting the idea that people should not care much about other people's looks. According to the singer, it is much more important what people have inside, rather than on the outside.
