Film director Pyotr Todorovsky dies at 88

Pyotr Todorovsky, a famous Soviet and Russian film director, died in Moscow at age 88. A few days ago, he was taken to hospital with a heart attack.

During the recent months, the director was hospitalized on several occasions due to heart problems.

Doctors diagnosed Todorovsky with unstable angina and a coronary heart disease; the director underwent a course of restorative treatment. After the treatment, the filmmaker was discharged from hospital, but his condition worsened soon afterwards. As a result, Todorovsky was hospitalized in one of the best centers of Cardiovascular Surgery named after Bakulev, where he died.

Spokespeople for the Council of Cinematographers said that the ceremony to bid farewell to Todorovsky will be held in the House of Cinema, Interfax reports. "It will take place on Monday or Tuesday - the family will decide the date," the first secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, Sergey Lazaruk, said.

Todorovsky made more than 20 films. His most famous classics of Soviet cinema include such motion pictures as "Urban Romance," "The Beloved Woman of Mechanic Gavrilov," "Wartime Romance", "Intergirl", "Encore, Encore". He starred in two films as an actor and wrote music to most of his films.
