Ahmet Davutoglu: Turkey shares pain of Armenians over the tragedy of 1915

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu declared in a statement dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of the massacre of Armenians during the Ottoman era.

"We once again respectfully remember and share the pain of grandchildren and children of Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives during deportation in 1915," said Davutoglu.

At the same time Ankara doesn't recognize this tragedy as genocide of Armenian people. Davutoglu stressed that Turkey does not accept that the massacre should be defined as a genocide, saying "to reduce everything to a single word, to put responsibility through generalizations on the Turkish nation alone... is legally and morally problematic."

"During the last years of the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman citizens who for centuries had lived together in peace and fraternity suffered great torments," said Prime Minister.

Several countreis such as Argentine, Belgium, Canada, France, Russia, Uruguay formally recognized the massacre as genocide.
