The round-table conferees discussed the protection of children' rights in Russia as part of the 14th international exhibition "Education and Career - 21st Century". The conferees discussed, in particular, how to give more information of the UN Convention on Children's Rights to Russian society and to provide conditions for its implementation. There are human rights' institutions in eight Russian regions. About 2,000 people turn to them annually. Forty per cent of these people belong to the younger generation. About 20 per cent of young people are aware of their right to study and to freely express their opinion, another 10 per cent are aware of their right to rest. More than 50 per cent of Russian young people cannot name any of their rights. Nevertheless, it does not mean that the Russian young people are politically indifferent, the conferees noted. Anna Chernyahovskaya, a UNISEF representative in Russia, is of the same opinion. According to her, 25 per cent of Russian young people want to contribute to local authorities' decisions concerning the youth interests and more than 40 per cent "ask at least to take into account their opinion".
