Surgeons in Russia's Chelyabinsk Regional Children's Hospital extracted 42 little magnets from the stomach of a 12-month-old baby.

The child's mother asked for medical help after she noticed that many toy magnets had disappeared. When the little boy had an ultrasound examination, medics saw that the child's stomach was filled with foreign bodies. The baby was rushed to the surgical department of Chelyabinsk Regional Children's Hospital, where they received an abdominal surgery.

"Over the years in pediatric surgery, I had to take a variety of foreign bodies including magnets from the stomachs and esophagi of young patients. Once I removed about 20 of them, but this incident of our little patient has broken all records," chief pediatric surgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Chelyabinsk region, Nikolay Rostovtsev, who performed the operation, said

The child currently recovers from the surgery.
