Indian school bans jeans and short skirts for female students

One of the colleges of India introduced a new rule banning female students under 19 from wearing jeans at school. The rule also bans short dresses and shirts.

Spokespeople for the school administration said that the new regulations were approved to protect women from possible harassment on the part of men. According to school officials, the attitude to female students depends a lot on their appearance, Rosbalt reports.

Female students were dissatisfied with the new regulations. Many of them said that their clothes would not change anything, the Russian New Service reports.

Local human rights activists have opposed the ban on wearing the clothes that girls like.

"Our country is developing, we live in the 21st century, and it's awful to hear about such measures. The government should not let schools dictate their students what to wear," said the head of the National Women's Commission of India.

It is worthy of note that this is not the first time that India introduces a ban that affects women. In 2010, unmarried girls were banned from using mobile phones in their village. This was done to control the communication of young people and prevent unions between the members of the same clan.

Later, a similar ban was imposed in another Indian village. Using a mobile phone in violation of local regulations entailed a fine of $200 for young women.
