Russian Baltic Fleet training ship to follow Russian fleet squadron route

The Baltic Fleet's Smolny training ship will push out from the Kaliningrad region's town of Baltiysk to the Mediterranean Sea with 300 students of the St. Petersburg and the Baltic Naval institutes and the Nakhimov Naval Academy on board.

The students will take practical courses in sea navigation, study the organisation of duty on board, the work of control stations and command centres for a month, the Baltic Fleet press service reported.

The participants of the raid on board the Smolny will study routes of the Baltic Fleet's ships, which in the middle of the 60-s of the eighteenth century under the command of Admiral Georgy Spiridov, one of Russia's most prominent naval commanders, explored the Mediterranean Sea and then defeated the Turkish fleet.

On August 19 the Russian training ship will put in at the Spanish port of Cartagena, situated on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, on a 5-day routine visit.
