Exhibition "Virtuosos of Graphics in the 19th and First Quarter of the 20th Century. From the Collection of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum" will kick off in Moscow on April 5th.

The exhibition is organized as part of the project "The Charm of Old Masterpieces," which Sergei Andriyaka's Moscow State Academy of Fine Arts and Watercolors launched two years ago. The project previously showcased rare collections of paintings from museums in St. Petersburg, Ryazan, Krasnodar and other regions of Russia. Now it is time for Nizhny Novgorod.

Visitors will be able to trace the history of the graphic genre - from small-format portraits of the early 19th century to works of art that became masterpieces of Russian graphics. The list of exhibits includes works by V. Serov, A. Benoit, I. Kramskoy, I. Repin, N. Ge, V. Makovsky, V. Vasnetsov and other masters.

A separate section is devoted to the drawing school of Andrei Karelin that in due time became an example of enlightenment, charity, and organization of artistic life in Nizhny Novgorod. The drawing school opened in the 1860s; the principle of education at school was based on the academic system.

The exhibition will open within the scope of the Open Day at the Moscow State Academy of Fine Arts and Watercolors. The rector of the institution, People's Artist of Russia, member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Sergei Andriyaka, will attend the opening ceremony together with teachers and students of the institution and representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony that will start at 11.30 a.m.

The exhibition "Virtuosos of Graphics in the 19th and First Quarter of the 20th Century. From the Collection of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum" will run through May 25th.
