Smartphones slowly kill market of digital cameras
According to analysts, the growing popularity of smartphones has a negative impact on the market of digital cameras. The sales of digital cameras have dropped this year by 42 percent. Manufacturers are trying to return the market, increasing the quality of cameras, and adding interactive features, reports Australian.com.
Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and other gadgets that have everything at once, have not only caused a sharp decline in the sales of compact digital cameras, but also triggered the decline of the market for portable game consoles and music players. Thus, smartphones have entered the market of such major companies in the field of photographic equipment as Canon, Nikon and others.
The study of Japanese Association "Camera and Imaging Products" echoes the gloomy forecasts of analysts.
The sales of digital cameras produced by Japanese firms have dropped by about 42 percent compared to 2011. Partially, the decline was caused with the debt crisis that plagued Europe and with the boycott of Japanese products on the Chinese market. But smartphones that combine several devices in one single package, are the main cause.
This has also affected the market of video games and players. Nintendo, that has recently released its latest console Wii U, has not received the proper excitement, as most users prefer to download games and music from the Internet on their phones.
Despite the fact that manufacturers of digital cameras try hard to regain the market, attracting customers with better quality of their products, and providing access to the Internet to download photos on the net right from cameras, the situation is not expected to improve for them in the near future.
