Perfect Geminid meteor shower to stun Earth on December 13

One will be able to witness one of the most beautiful meteor showers in 2012 in three days, according to astronomers.

On December 13, fragments of dead comet will enter the atmosphere of our planet. The fragments will create the bright rain in space upon entering the Earth's atmosphere. This type of meteor shower is known as the Geminid, because it will seem that the stars will be falling from the constellation of  Gemini.

The conditions for observing the most visible meteor shower this year will be almost perfect. The moon will be in the phase of the new moon. The best places to observe the meteor shower will be central Russia, Europe, North Africa and China, where the frequency of meteors will be up to 120 meteors per hour. However, as scientists say, the shower will be visible from any part of the world.

The Geminid meteor rain is usually considered the most generous annual meteor shower. Fading debris fly towards the Earth at a speed of 35 kilometers per second. With a good set of circumstances, one will be able to see up to 50 stellar strokes per minute.
