Moving in with a man makes a woman fat

It's official - moving in with the boyfriend is bad for a woman's waistline according to a new study. But the opposite is true for men, whose long-term health improves when they move in with their partner.

During a "honeymoon period" both partners try to please and impress each other and so conform their diets. So women eat creamier, heavier dishes such as curry or rich pasta sauces, while the men reduce fat and sugar and consume lighter meals such as salads.

Study author, Dr Amelia Lake said couples needed to address their diet as a team early on in the relationship. "You can't just blame an unhealthy lifestyle or diet on your partner, as there are many other things that affect what you eat and do," she said.

"Couples who move in to together should use the opportunity of the honeymoon period to make positive changes to their diet and lifestyle by working together and supporting each other", reports Daily Mail .

A man's diet, however, tends to become healthier when he starts living with a female partner. Furthermore her influence usually has a long-term positive impact.

According to the researchers, the reason for this is that both partners try to please each other during the 'honeymoon' period at the start of the cohabiting relationship. To this end, they adjust their routine to suit their partner and eat the foods that he/she likes.

"But couples who have been in their relationships for longer should remember that it is never too late to make changes and again, this needs team work", Dr Lake added, informs Irish Health .
